If when contacting the enquirer it is found that they are already an existing customer, you should link this Enquiry to their Customer Account.
You can check if they are an existing customer by using the global search:
Link to Existing Customer.
Once you have found that they are an existing customer you can link their new enquiry to their existing cust. contact record.
Go to the Enquiry record and then the 'Enquiry > Customer' tab and follow the prompts.
Here you will be able to update information, review and link this enquiry to their existing record.

Once the Cust. Contact and A/C are linked you will be able to directly access these from the Compact Layout at the top of the enquiry record page.
Cust. Contact Record
In the customer contact record you will be able to see the previous business you have had with them. This includes any other enquiries, opportunities, jobs and invoices.
Create a NEW Customer Contact

If the enquirer is NOT an existing customer go to the 'Enquiry > Customer' TAB and follow the prompts provided to Create a Customer Record.
If there is already a Customer A/C record that you would like to link the new customer contact too, select the 3rd option.
If there is NO Customer A/C or Contact record select the last option.
Then once the Customer Account and Contact records have been created you can choose to go to those records or Create an Opportunity.
